Clayoquot Sound Watershed Recovery Initiative
Redd Fish Restoration Society, formerly known as Central Westcoast Forest Society, supported Hesquiaht, Ahousaht, and Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations’ initiative to restore critical salmon populations in the Clayoquot Sound by reconstructing rearing habitat. This project involved implementing bioengineering approaches (woody debris structures, riparian planting) to stabilize banks, reduce erosion, and create habitats supportive of migrating salmon. The video below showcases some of the great work that was accomplished last year.
Redd Fish Restoration Society was founded in 1995 by loggers, First Nations, biologists and forestry professionals who recognized the need to address the loss of habitat in order to preserve wild fish stocks. As a non-profit organization on the west coast of Vancouver Island, Redd Fish strives for the conservation of wild fish through habitat restoration, research and monitoring.
